Esperanza of Southern California is a small, home based kennel located in San Diego, CA. All of our dogs are part of our family and are our pets first and foremost. We breed our dogs to improve upon the breed. We focus on health, temperament, and conformation.
Now, a little bit about us:
Jay Randall was born in San Diego in 1984 where he grew up and went to school. Throughout high school, he was very involved in his school's music program as a tuba player. While a junior in high school, Jay traveled to Sydney, Australia to perform as a member of a 2000 piece marching band during the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics. During his senior year, he joined the San Diego Youth Symphony, one of the premier youth orchestra's in America and the 6th oldest continuously running youth orchestras. Following high school, Jay attended San Diego State University on a music scholarship. During his involvement with music in San Diego, he has been a member of the local Musician's Union and has played with the Westwind Brass Quintet and the San Diego Symphony. In addition to engagements with the Westwind Brass Quintet and San Diego Symphony, Jay has also performed professional in numerous other smaller engagements.
Currently, Jay is a California Certified Phlebotomy Technician while concurrently attending school to get a degree in biology with a long term goal of becoming a doctor.
Genevieve Randall was born in Oakland, CA in 1985 but grew up in San Diego. During middle school and high school, Genevieve was involved in choir performing at competitions across the country. During her junior year, due to a registration mix up, she landed in the school color guard where she and Jay first met. Following high school, she began working toward her nursing degree. She is a lifetime learner with hopes of achieving a doctorate degree. She is currently working in nursing at a local hospital in their intensive care and progressive care units. Genevieve has been very active in the Filipino community serving as Miss Mindanao 2004-2005, Miss Republic of the Phillipines 2004-2006, and Miss Pozorubio 2004-2006 and has been active with many other organizations and received a leadership award from the Lion's Club.
In October 2009, Genevieve started her own business as a beauty consultant with Marykay. She offers free facials. Just contact her from her website: http://www.marykay.com/g_randall
Jay and Genevieve were married in 2005. Our involvement in dogs began in January of 2008 when we rescued our first dog from a local humane society. After that, it just kind of snowballed when we got our first Shiba Inu. It was after this that we went to the CA Pet Expo in Orange County where we got to see our first AKK. During the next few months, we acquired another Shiba Inu and 4 Alaskan Klee Kai.
A Breeders Life
A Breeder (with a capital B) is one who thirsts for knowledge and never really knows it all, one who wrestles with decisions of conscience, convenience, and commitment. One that shares this knowledge and guides those interested.
A Breeder is one who sacrifices personal interests, finances, time, friendships, fancy furniture, and deep pile carpeting! She gives up the dreams of a long luxurious cruise in favor of turning that all important show into this year's "vacation".
The Breeder goes without sleep in hours spent planning a breeding or watching anxiously over the birth process, and afterwards, over every little wiggle or cry.
The Breeder skips dinner parties because that litter is due or the babies have to be fed at eight. She disregards birth fluids andts mouth to mouth, to save a gasping newborn, literally blowing life into a tiny helpless creature that may be the culmination of a lifetime of dreams.
A Breeder's lap is a marvelous place where dogs of proud and noble heritage often snooze.
A Breeder's hands are strong and firm and often soiled, but ever so gentle and sensitive to the thrusts of a puppy's wet nose.
A Breeder's back and knees are usually arthritic from bending and sitting in the whelping box, but are strong enough to guide that new little pup to maturity.
A Breeder's shoulders are often heaped with responsibility, but they're wide enough to support the weight of a thousand defeats and frustrations.
A Breeder's arms are always able to wield a mop, support an armful of puppies, or lend a helping hand to a newcomer.
A Breeder's ears are wondrous things, sometimes red (from being talked about), or strangely shaped (from being pressed against a phone receiver). Often deaf to criticism, yet always fine tuned to the whimper of an anxious puppy.
A Breeder's brain is foggy on faces, but can recall pedigreesfaster than an IBM computer.
The Breeder's heart is often broken, but it beats strongly with hope everlasting.......and it's always in the right place! Oh, yes, there are breeders, and then, there are Breeders!!!
